Hoi An afternoon and evening foodie and walking tour

We arrived at Chan May cruise port at 1 pm and were promptly met at dockside at 1:30 pm by our tour guide Thuy and her driver. We were immediately impressed with her excellent fluent English, her attentiveness and desire to show us her hometown. She was also sensitive to our tour and food requests and these were accommodated seamlessly. I would highly recommend asking for Thuy as your tour guide. — Traveller: Colman W from Tripadvisor

Wonderful tour in Hoi An with Thuy and Xuan Tu Tours

Our cruise ship docked in Da Nang and Thuy met us promptly for our trip to Hoi An. It was a wonderful day. First we toured the market, then took a boat to a village famous for wood carving. Be careful on the “monkey bridge”, a balance beam exit from the boat! We also watched a craftsman creating mother of pearl inlay wood items, visited a house to see someone weave reed mats (and try it ourselves), and enjoyed a rice paper snack after watching how both rice paper and rice noodles were made. We had an interesting discussion about American politics as we munched. I spotted a clothing store and spent quite a lot of time there. Thuy and the shop girl held a curtain to create a dressing room and we laughed a lot as I tried on clothes. We had told them we were vegetarian and had a choice of two veg restaurants next door to each other. We saw the more standard tourist sites in Hoi An as well. Thuy took our picture in the old house and it’s on their Facebook page. Don’t take the cruise ship’s excursions, book Xuan Tu Tours instead. — Traveller: Hope K from Tripadvisor

Amazing Port Excursion from Chan May

My husband and I are frequent cruisers and shy away from the ship board tours as we desire a little more personal and authentic experience when we visit some place. We typically book private guides and cars for the day when in port. During my initial research, I found Xuan Tu’s Private Guide services here on Trip Advisor and contacted her about our visit to Vietnam. She was prompt in her response and offered several different options for our days in Chan May/Danang/Hoi An. We chose a combination of things in Danang and Hoi An. We were met by Lam (sorry if my spelling is wrong) at the port, and spent a very memorable day with him. He shared history, culture of his country, the city, taking us to coffee at Longs, lunch at a family place in Hoi An with trips to the Lady Buddha and Marble Mountain. We felt more like a family friend than a simple tourist. It made for a wonderful and memorable day. — Traveller: TexPick from Tripadvisor

Da Nang and Hoi An Tour with Quan.

We departed the “Voyager of the Seas” at Da Nang to be met by Quan (“just call me Q”) on the dockside. The booking process to this point had been easy and trouble-free and all enquiries were answered quickly and well. We piled into the car (more about that later) and were presented with cool wipes and water upon departure. Q’s English was impeccable and he showed lots of interest in us, our country (Scotland) and our travels. We told him that we wanted to go and visit a few areas that interested us (China Beach and a local market) and he took us there with no problem, even though it probably didn’t suit his schedule for the tour – sorry Q!! We enjoyed a great meal in a local restaurant that he recommended then went on to see the sites of Hoi An, the Marble Mountains and the big Buddha in the afternoon. We were keen to ensure that we got back to the cruise ship for 6.30pm at the latest (departure was 7.30pm, so we left a little wiggle time) and despite a very busy and full day, he got us back just after 6pm – fantastic! My only slight quibble was the car – a 7 seater, yes, but the 2 rear seats are designed for kids, not adults. They were very squashed and uncomfortable for those in the back. We were a group of 4, so there was plenty of room in the back seats for 2, which were very comfortable indeed. The driving can be 1.5 hours each way from the port, so if you’re thinking of doing this as a party of 5, just be aware that these rear seats can be an issue. This issue though is typical of the layout of many of the vehicles we saw at the port, so no just restricted to this company and certainly did not impact on what was a very worthwhile buy. To summarise – a great company, great tour guide, great locations and the best day we had on our holiday where we visited several ports in 14 days. Highly, highly recommended and very good to deal with – book with confidence….thanks to all involved – and Q for his great day out! — Traveller: HallidayScotland from Tripadvisor

Tour of Da Nang and Hoi Na

We were a group of 8 who hired this company for a Private Tour of the Da Nang and Hoi An area. Our guide, Lam, met us at the cruise ship……..and we had a fantastic day. Lots of sites, local lunch and coffee shop visit. Highly recommend Lam and this tour company. — Traveller: pmallen from Tripadvisor
