First, Xuan, the owner, was very helpful in arranging our tour at the last minute.
We were very lucky to see Hoi An accompanied by Duy. He was on time, articulate and friendly. He was happy to answer all our questions and share Vietnamese culture with us.
We had a great time visiting a boat building yard in action, the home of a family who weaves mats and another one who makes rice noodles and rice cakes. The icing on the cake was the Hoi An Ancient City! It is lovely. The trees along the river were in flower and the lanterns were beautiful. The old buildings were interesting and picturesque. While it is a bustling city with bicycles, motorcycles dodging pedestrians and vice versa, you can take it at a leisurely pace. We started with a great lunch over looking the river, visited the Japanese bridge and wandered through the streets.
I’m so glad we stayed until after the sun went down. The city lights up with lanterns and it is lovely. We finished off with dinner at a Vietnamese sandwich shop recommended by Anthony Bourdain. It was delicious!
It was a great day out! I highly recommend it. Wear comfortable shoes!
