We thought it would be best to go with a local guide while in Vietnam, as we were coming off a cruise ship (Sapphire Princess) and time was short with only a one day stopover….we were so pleased to be met by Thuy Luong. She was waiting patiently in the hot sun holding a sign with my name so we knew exactly who she was. Thuy is the sweetest person you would ever meet. She asked us what we wanted to see or experience in Hoi An and designed the tour to meet our needs exactly….including last minute requests. When I noticed the arm protectors that she was wearing and mentioned that I liked them, she asked the driver to stop at a local vendor so that I could pick up a pair (and some masks), and she negotiated an excellent price in the local language. I couldn’t be happier. We were a group of 4, and we fit comfortably in a newish Toyota Fortuner (mid-sized SUV). With the driver and Thuy, we had lots of room for all 6 of us, plus a cooler of water to keep us hydrated. Thuy was very kind, polite and extremely well informed about her country. It felt like we were with a friend instead of a guide.
The tour itself was a good mix of sites, food, and culture. The tour was well-paced, and she took extra care that we were safe from the traffic and unfamiliar locales. After a very long day, Thuy rode all the way back with us to our cruise ship port in Chan May. i don’t she got back to her home in Danang until close to midnight but she was so accommodating the entire time.
I would highly recommend Thuy!
