We booked this tour direct with Xuân Tú back in January and it was the only thing in our entire itinerary that didn’t go smoothly. On the morning of the tour there was no guide waiting at reception so the resort kindly phoned to find out what had gone wrong. For whatever reason, despite exchanging several emails in the intervening months, our tour had not been booked. Xuân Tú apologised immediately and offered to get us our guide within an hour.
So not the best of starts but we had booked to see the Marble Mountain and My Son and we decided it would be worth the wait – and it was. We had the pleasure of Lam’s company for the day and what a treat that was. Lam’s English is excellent but he was always checking his pronunciation and spelling. He was engaging with a good sense of humour and made us feel like VIPs for the whole day. If you get this guy as your guide you have done well – he’s also a pretty good photographer!
The tour also included the Lady Buddha statue and pagoda. Lam ensured the driver was waiting for us at every opportunity with the air-con on and a cold bottle of water as it was a very hot day. Lunch was at a local Vietnamese restaurant where Lam showed us how to eat Banh Xeo pancakes. This was not a tourist trap and the food was excellent and ridiculously cheap.
At the end of the day Lam treated us to a beer and Banh Mi at Banh Mi Phuong – a very busy and popular restaurant – and his inside knowledge allowed us to skip the very lengthy queue. All in all an excellent day out. Thanks Lam – no b
