Our guide Lam took us on a full day tour of Hoi An during which we visited one of the small islands. We rode bikes alongside paddy fields and visited vilagers’homes to watch them making woven mats and rice noodles. We even had chance to have a go ourselves. The people were so friendly and it gave a real insight into the lives of locals. When we got back to our hotel we decided we would like to buy a set of the placemats we had seen being made. We contacted Lam who collected them on the following day from the village and left them at our hotel. Lam is very passionate about supporting the local community and this act demonstrated that commitment. This tour was the highlight of our short trip to Vietnam and I would definitely recommend it if you like to experience local culture.
